House of No Bricks

A new contemporary family home was designed to replace an existing traditional mid century house. The design was meant to be   non ostentatious and a celebration of private life. The design whilst providing varying volumes for different functions breaks the monotony of transition between one space to another. The objective was to wrap a private green space and to organise living spaces around landscape.Gifted with a reserve park adjacent to the site, the design took the opportunity to use the park's large tree canopies as borrowed landscape. The C planned house has its internal garden court designed adjacent to the park site. The use of varying internal volumes, water features , landscape greatly helps to reduce the internal temperatures. Glass fibre Reinforced Gypsum (GFRG) panels were used to construct both the walls and the roof of the structure. The use of this technology helped to reduce the internal temperature and has helped to gain precious carpet area. The 45 degree steep pitched roof enables to create dramatic spaces of varying volumes within. The choice of Pink slate for roof and pink toned walls makes the house look almost monolithic. The beautiful inconsistent variety in the natural pink slate roof is made very evident because of the steepness of the roof.
